Celebrating Failure

This semester has been the most challenging one thus far. It has shown me what I am really capable of handling and I think the class that has challenged me the most has been painting. My patience has been tested beyond my comprehension in that course. I learned that if you really want something you are the only one that can help yourself. No one is going to do anything for you if you just feel bad for yourself. The best way to approach a difficult assignment or work of art is to breathe and experiment. Without failure everything would not be worthwhile. I am a very emotional person so it is difficult for me not to let my emotions take over and affect absolutely everything. I think that this class in particular has helped me overcome my fear of failing. It has shown me that there is only one way to go after making a mistake and that is up. I feel that I am definitely more likely to take a risk now than I was four months ago.

  1. Hi Isabella,

Although I can't find any particular failure in your reflection, I must admit that I am in total agreement with almost all you have stated. It is very important for us to reckon our failures and to understand when where and why we have made a mistake to further amend it and learn from it. I find it interesting that you have made reference to beginning a work or art, which is actually one of the few tasks in which only failure will make you better, and rather than a one shot thing it is a matter of perseverence and effort until you can succeed. 2. Hi Isabella,

You seem to have overcome a lot this semester. I am not an art major so I cannot relate to that so much, but I know that there must be tons of projects that you have to spend days completing and then learn to take criticism. I have also learned from this class to accept failure and move forward with it. Unfortunately I did not complete this post assignment, but I really enjoyed reading yours! great job!

  3. Hi Isabella,
I too had a difficult time finding failure in this situation. I am also in agreement with all of your statements. This semester has been very trying beyond my comprehension. Feeling bad for myself never got me anywhere either and I certainly agree that I have to help myself. Thank you for allowing me to peer review you. Here is a link to my assignment.

Some of the most challenging things are the most unexpected things, but I think it is essential to face these challenges in order to gain new perspective and a strong work ethic.
